Healthcare system vulnerable to attacks.
The FBI released a joint alert to the American public that they have “credible information of an increased and imminent cybercrime threat to U.S. hospitals and healthcare providers.” The report warns of ransomware software being downloaded on the company’s computer networks, holding their data hostage unless money is paid off to the hacker attempting the heist.
Five U.S. hospitals have already been affected by this wave of crime this week amidst the coronavirus pandemic. A total of 59 U.S. health facilities have been affected in 2020. The U.S. Cyber Command, a branch of the Defense Department, has indicated that it is directly targeting the attack that is believed to be coming from Russia.
